Show and Shine
Readers of aBr will probably remember a shiny red BMW 2002 which featured on these pages as a project car build, dubbed
BMW 2002 Youth Project. The brief was to create an affordable classic which would be suitable (by virtue of a number of
contemporary, under-the-skin changes) as a daily drive
T
he owner of a car would be an 18-year-old, with the project kicking off
about the time of his 17th birthday. Said owner, now 21, still patiently
awaits his car and it is safe to say that the experience has been a
long one, convoluted by the vagaries which come with project car
building in particular and the challenges of life in general. For this we have
stopped making excuses...
Two key partners of the project have been Cornright Motors – responsible
for bodywork and paintwork (and there has been plenty to do on both fronts)
and Jonnesway. As well as supplying a range of tools which made working on
Youth Project infi nitely easier, Jonnesway in fact became the naming sponsor
of the car, hence the windscreen branding.
Now that the project has been completed (though still incomplete as far as
the interior goes thanks to the life challenges mentioned in paragraph two) we
made a last call on the magnanimity of Cornright and the Corna family: please
give the 2002 a last once-over and fi x all the little dings, scratches and scrapes
that have become a bit of an - unwanted - ‘patina’. The car has travelled far
and wide; sometimes under its own power and sometimes on a trailer, visiting
the likes of Norbrake in Benoni, Mikem Suspension at the bottom of Eloff
Street, Evolution Two in Kyalami and Powermods
in Steeldale.
While Cornrights once again provided
the labour, Gondolier (Jonnesway’s
umbrella company) provided
a range of polishes and
polishing accessories/
consumables. They asked
Cornright to try their new
Farécla G3 Premium
range, designed for
modern paint systems.
“The polish really
brought the Henna
Red paintwork back
to life and our staff felt
that they got really good
results with less eff ort,”
says Cornright’s Chris
Corna. “After some touch-
ups, we used it to good eff ect
to remove surface defects and
swirl marks. The ’02 looks pretty
impressive once again!”
Now to fi nish that interior...
Gondolier’s Marco Willemse
and Cornright polisher
Nicolus Sepota (aka
Pumba) get to grips with
