hile rain forced
organisers to pull the
pin on the Troy
Bayliss Classic dirt
track, the man
himself says the
meeting will be even
bigger next year and it isn’t leaving his
hometown anytime soon. “The main Classic
is Taree. We like supporting the club and
bringing the event to the town,” he said.
The meeting started at the Old Bar track
in 2012 when Bayliss invited a few mates
to compete in a twilight event and “got
carried away”.
“Clearly every year we have to improve
and make it better. We’ve done that by

bringing in better riders and more
internationals. The other side of that is
bringing a great event to our home town and
the support we have got through a
government grant.
“That money has gone into the track and
the canteen, so it’s gone into equipment – it
is going in the right direction.
“I’d like to see permanent lighting, but
other than that we’re pretty much there.”
This year’s All Stars rider line-up had a
very different look to it, with more regular
Aussie dirt track competitors and less road
racers. The American flat track contingent
was up to five, compared to zero in 2012.
But even they found the intermittent
showers a bit too much to handle on the
