This is definitely true for Vasundhara
Sarovar Premiere, located at Vayalar,
about two hours from Cochin
Airport. Contemporary and age-old
techniques await you at this luxurious
5,000-square-feet spa operated by
Soft Touch, internationally acclaimed
spa professionals.
A sense of calm pervades every
corridor and wooden staircase of the
resort. The spa experience begins with
a detailed personalised consultation

with the in-house Ayurveda physician,

who suggests treatments and prescribes

Ayurveda medicines and a diet

corresponding to your dosha – vata,

pitta or kapha – or a combination

thereof. Western treatments are

also performed, but the expertise in

Ayurveda, practiced in four rooms lit

by natural light, is unmatched.

My ‘Navarakizhi’ – a perspiration-

triggering body scrub using medicated

herbal rice – made me feel like some

medieval royal without a care in the

world. My body was slathered in oil

using marma massage strokes, and then

the rice – first soaked in natural herbs

and oils and then cooked in milk – was

packed in puffy muslin pouches that

were then used to scrub my body. Fifteen

minutes in a steam box, and a luxurious

shower later, I put my feet up on the

relaxation deck – with a cool glass of

shadapaneeya rasa (a concoction of

eight distinct flavours) – to an endless

view of the calm waters of the rainwater

harvested lake on one side, the private

natural lake on the other, and further

away, Vembanad Lake. This is clearly

how the Gods live!
