Volvo V40 T2 1.5 (A)

without fuss. The 6-speed automatic
gearbox is smooth and effective, and
fits well with the T2 engine. The car
never complains, and is always at your
bidding, whether you want to rush
along or simply chill in urban traffic.
It holds its own fairly well in non-
performance terms too, with the V40
offering quite capable handling that
makes it rather good fun to punt in
the corners. Its taut chassis, well-
sorted body control, and feelsome
steering combine to make the V40 a
rather entertaining little hatch that will
delight keen drivers. Perhaps the only
drawback might be the slightly harsh
ride from its overly-stiff suspension,
but that’s merely a minor quibble
in the greater scheme of things.
All things considered though, Volvo
has perhaps struck gold with the V40
T2, offering the ideal combination of
affordability, economy, and performance.
It may have came about due to
shifting regulations, but if anything,
it only shows that the company is
capable of adapting well to changing
circumstances. If anything, this should
probably have been the V40 variant that
we should have had from the start.
