ycling on Singapore’s
roads can be a pretty
hazardous affair,
especially since every
inch of the road is filled with motorised
vehicles of all proportions, making it a
pretty risky trip, should you attempt to
complete that Gran Fondo challenge
that would take you through the rough
and congested periods of traffic.
There is surely nothing better
than the feeling of having someone
cover your back while you block out
external interference to fight that
disastrous headwind. No, it isn’t
another fellow rider, but the latest
gadget from Cycliq, the Fly6.
Thank the people at Cycliq for creating
something so ingenious like this, the
Fly6 isn’t quite like any other external
camera that fights for seat-post space;
it is an integrated product, combining a
HD camera and a tail light. Standing on
the vertical axis at only 85mm tall and

40mm wide, the Fly6 is definitely heavier
than a standard tail light at 51mm and
weighs in at 116g. While that seems like
parasitic weight, do keep in mind that it
serves two functions for the size of one.
The tail light does a pretty decent job
of flashing and glowing at 30 lumens.
Notably, it has a memory setting that
keeps in mind your preferred light mode.
However, what truly fascinates many
whenever the Fly6 is mentioned is its HD
camera, which boasts a 720p resolution
and wide-angled recording, making it a
perfect companion for those cycling trips
where one has to transverse through
crowded sections of public roads.
Just like a DVR (Digital Video Recorder)
for cars, the Fly6 also possesses an
Incident Mode of capture, which is
automatically activated when the bike is
tilted over 30 degrees for five seconds.
A rapid successive three-beep chirp is a
confirmation that an ‘incident’ has been
saved for viewing and downloading

later. Just remember to straighten your
bike or turn it off before laying it down.
Battery life is not an issue as well, with
a total operating life of six hours, clearly
enough for a single trip around the island,
whether it is for leisurely cruise or a face-
paced road attack session. Rain, mud
and grime is of no concern to the Fly6’s
longevity, since it comes factory-coated
with nanotechnology, keeping unwanted
contaminants out of critical components.
Happily, Cycliq also provides an 8GB
microSD class 10 memory card for
out-of-the-box usage, more than
enough for a single trip’s recording.
Given today’s quick-to-anger and
volatile situation between drivers and
cyclists on the roads today, the Fly6
from Cycliq is a godsend for those who
are looking to protect themselves from
errant drivers, as well as great viewing
material, especially during moments
of sprinting, recording the shocked
faces of rivals as you pull away!

WATCHING YOUR BACK

There’s nothing more reassuring than having a pair of eyes behind

you while you pummel the roads with your two-wheeler...
