    Shu founded Transcend Information, which
    makes computer memory products, including

    Taiwan Strait.

the “Tainan Gang,” a group of businesses
and leaders that hail from southern Taiwan,
including Tainan Spinning, one of Taiwan’s
largest textile manufacturers. His family also

    SOURCE: DIVERSIFIED
    AGE: 73. MARRIED, 3 CHILDREN

Eastern Group’s business beyond textiles, his
estimated fortune fell this year amid slack
economic growth in Taiwan and overseas.
    Among declining shares, shipper U-Ming
Marine Transport lost more than a third of its
value. Son Jeff, who is chief innovation officer,
is working to improve efficiency and seek new
    business.

    SOURCE: ELECTRONICS

a peak of $8.8 billion in 2011, when together they

mobile phone flagship HTC seem to have bottomed
out in first half of 2016 after company pushed into
the booming virtual-reality goggle business. Wang
also holds shares in Formosa Plastics, the company
cofounded by her deceased father, Y.C. Wang, and
in media businesses (see box, p. 74).
