FLEA MARKETS
Nothing can quite compete with that
perfect photographic shot of New
Delhi that captures all its
colours, and if you’re
wondering where to shoot
an image like that, head
to the flea markets on
the streets of Delhi.
Part of women’s
traditional attire
are the bangles on
their hands in
India, and flea
markets flourish
with colourful
displays of
bangles.
Jewellery,
accessories and
eclectic
handicrafts, as
well as clothing,
shoes and
accessories, an
incredible variety of
goods are available at
these markets at
astounding prices. Some
favourite spots for locals and
tourists are Dilli Haat Market and
Janpath Market near central Delhi.
Don’t forget to bargain!

Khan Market
Often touted as India’s priciest
retail space, Khan market is
an eclectic mix of street
vendors, high-end
designer products and
cafes and bistros. The
market attracts a lot of
foreign settlers and
tourists in Delhi. A must
see store is Good Earth
for chic Indo-western
furnishings and home
ware, while the open air
markets are a delight for
jewellery and artefact
enthusiasts.

Connaught Place
Walking into this old world marketplace is like
walking into a black and white film – with
vintage black street lamps reminiscent of a
certain old world London, and gorgeous white
colonial arches that embellish the outsides of
some of the best stores in the world. It feels
stately walking around this market, but the
authenticity of the ‘Indian’ street shopping
experience never dials down.

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP RIGHT
Vibrant bangles brighten up the flea
markets; Colourful puppets on sale at
the Dilli Haat market ; Funky products
with an Indian twist at Chumbak; Bars
and Restaurants come alive in the
evenings at Connaught Place

NEW DELHI AT A GLANCE

Khari Baoli
The second deserving Baoli on this list, this is Asia’s largest spice market located on a street in the
quaint Old Delhi. Olfactory senses go on hyperdrive as one breathes in the spices and the tea that
abounds in the country all in one winding street, with the sound of bargains adding to the auditory
experience of this bustling market.

Chumbak
Souvenirs are often the best part of a
vacation, some would argue. So if memories
and pictures weren’t enough, we also found
one of the best souvenir shops that rings true
of the kaleidoscopic colour display that
echoes in every overarching view of the old
city architecture. Meeting the millennial with
old world kitsch, the store draws you in with
its bright design and indian inspired patterns
on homeware, linen, bags, phone and laptop
covers, and plenty other accessories. If you’ve
been looking to brighten your room with
something from your travels, this is the store
for you.
