COVER STORY

Soha I can be quite disciplined when it comes
to food. For the most part, I try to avoid desserts
and fried food. While travelling, I like checking out
vegan cafés. When we go to a restaurant, Kunal
will just ask for the best dish on the menu. But I
can never do that – I tweak my order and request a
salad instead of fries and skip dessert altogether.
Kunal I don’t follow a diet at all. I eat what I
love and I work out in a manner that allows me
to eat exactly what I want without thinking about
how much fat or carbs my food contains. I look
at a potato as a potato and not as a storehouse of
carbs. I let myself go all the time.
Now that we know how you look so good, tell
us about what’s keeping you busy work wise?
Soha We have started a production house and
are looking forward to showcasing new content.
Kunal has lots of ideas that we want to translate
into content for films as well as for the web.
Kunal The first film we are going to produce
is with RSVP – Ronnie Screwvala’s company.
We are doing a film on the life of noted
lawyer Ram Jethmalani. I have already started
shooting for Golmaal 4. I have also been writing
extensively; in fact, a film that I have written is
going to be commissioned soon.
After a long day at work, what is your favourite
way to let off steam?
Soha I love a good massage. So much so, that if
I had my way, I’d get one every day. I also love
watching a movie, or binge watching my favourite
TV show. I’ve been known to spend entire
weekends watching my favourite shows!
Kunal It’s the same with me as well. I also
look forward to going back to my pet Masti –
I’ve had her for the last eight or nine years. She
takes away all the steam, if there’s any.
What about spas?
Kunal We both have masseuses who come
home. When we are travelling, we enjoy going
to spas and sampling different therapies. Soha
enjoys a spa experience more than I do.
Soha Absolutely! When in Maldives, we
spend so much time swimming and indulging
in water sports that we are naturally exhausted.
One of the best ways to destress is to go to a
spa and rejuvenate. There are so many things
you can do in a spa, but a deep tissue sports
massage interests me the most.
Tell us about your favourite spa experience.
Soha Going to a Hammam in Turkey was very
memorable in spite of a few challenging aspects.
It was a traditional Hammam where somebody
comes and scrubs you from head to toe. It was
an interesting experience. We visited Turkey
in December – it was freezing outside – and
comfortingly warm in the traditional Hammam.
Kunal Recently, when we were in Croatia, we
stayed at the Sheraton in Dubrovnik. The spa
there was something else. I had the most amazing
spa therapy, which was so relaxing that within
five minutes of the therapy, I was fast asleep and
had to be woken up at the end. I think a great
massage is one that just puts you to sleep.
And what are your views on wellness?
Soha Wellness is an overall sense of health
and contentment. We tend to focus a lot on
physical health, but I think the main problem
of the 21st century is mental stress. There is
no point looking good on the outside if you
are falling apart from the inside.
Kunal If you train your mind, your body
will follow. It’s better not to go to the gym if
you’re tired. In fact, if you want to work out
when you’re tired, it’s best to do lighter weights
and a shorter workout. Likewise, if you are not
in a happy space and are mentally just not
there, you are still prone to injury.
What is the most important ingredient for
a healthy body, mind and soul?
Soha Sound sleep; it is when your body heals.
Kunal Exercise. A mere 20-minute run
increases your heart rate and helps your
body secrete feel-good endorphins.
