For an extraordinary dining experience, try the Chef’s Herb
Garden, where aromatics grown here are used in the chef’s
interactive cooking demonstrations. There’s also Drift,
located on Jehunuhura Island. The offshore grill kitchen is
great for private gatherings and is just minutes away by
tender boat from the main island.
For a nightcap, Kanuhura Maldives’ Corwry Club at the
infinity pool serves delicious cocktails skilfully prepared by the
bar’s creative mixologists. Each barkeep has their own list of
handcrafted signatures, making each drink a surprise. There’s
also Iru, the sunset beach lounge, where guests can head to
for a casual cocktail or just to enjoy the swings, beach rocking
chairs, tents and game tables available.
WHAT AM I DOING?
There’s so much to do at Kanuhura Maldives that it’s hard to
imagine you’re on a secluded island far from the main island of
Malé. For a start, Kanuhura Maldives is famed for its selection of
sports, ranging from a peaceful, soul-rejuvenating session of
sunrise yoga, to a hardcore, sweat-inducing hour-long
Maldivian Warrior Workout. There’s also tennis cardio, a score
of water sports (waterski, stand-up paddling, etc.), and even an
early-morning island barefoot run that will get guests back in
shape in no time.
If not into working out on vacation, there’s still plenty to do,
such as an afternoon of blissful relaxation and wellness at
Kokaa Spa. There’s also star-gazing with Riza, Kanuhura’s
astrology specialist that includes a boat ride around the
island, a weekly open air cinema at Cowry Club, and cooking
and cocktail classes.
The resort offers classes for scuba diving and catamaran
licenses for those interested in picking up a new sport while
here. For young ones, the K Club and Games Room will
provide hours of entertainment with its board games and
game consoles available. And for adults, go shopping for
Maldivian sarongs and jewellery at the Kanuhura Boutique.
BEYOND THE FRONT DOOR
If what’s available at Kanuhura Maldives isn’t enough,
explore Jehunuhura Island and Masleggihuraa, go on a
dolphin sunset cruise to spot the pods of dolphins that live
near the resort, and even fish at dusk on a traditional dhoni
(fishing boat). For a taste of local culture, take a privately
guided tour of Naifaru to see the local school, harbour,
streets and community. Naifaru is also home to the Atoll
Marine Centre, a volunteer-run turtle sanctuary where
marine biologists nurse turtles of various species, ages and
sizes back to health. Kanuhura Maldives works closely with
the centre and encourages its guests to make a visit to
understand more about marine conservation. Those so
inclined can even adopt their own turtle and guests will be
able to receive monthly updates of their turtles via email.
