TIME WATCH
Did you know that Singapore has changed
time zones six times since 1905? Singapore
was seven hours ahead of GMT between
1905 to 1932, but from 1933 to 1941, the
clocks were moved for ward by 20 minutes
for daylight savings – which was then
changed to 30 minutes between 1941
and 1942. When the Japanese occupied
Singapore, the clocks were changed to be
in the same time zone as Tokyo. The time
went back to seven and a half hours ahead
of GMT after the occupation. Then, in 1982,
Singapore’s clocks were set to be the same
as Malaysia.


FLUSHED AWAY!
Nearly 6,500 night soil bucket latrines
were still around in Singapore in 1975
before a proper sanitation system was
implemented. The famous “honey truck”
was a nickname for the sewage trucks
that cleared the buckets. By the mid
1980s, almost all Singaporean homes
had modern sanitation. The last night
