(Ron) #1
On many an ocean floor, long, dark
strands reach upward from bluish
sands to sway in the current. They
could easily be mistaken for seagrass.
This is the small garden eel, and
it is about the length of your leg.
Their big eyes scan the water for
plankton, their main source of food.
They’re harmless creatures, and
they can’t really defend themselves
against predators. To make up for this,
they anchor themselves in the sand
with their tails and drift around like
seagrass. They slip quickly back into
the sand at any sign of danger.

ASIA HAS SOME SIMPLY ADORABLE – AND
SLIGHTLY ODD-LOOKING – CREATURES! THESE
LITTLE GUYS LEFT US A MOLLYCODDLING MESS.
THEY COMPLETELY WON US OVER – AND WE
THINK THEY WILL WIN YOU, OVER TOO!
