KFC $10
No, not American fried
chicken but Korean
Fried Cauliflower, a sinful
vegetarian dish of battered
cauliflower florets slicked
a la Korean fried chicken
in a sweet-spicy sauce
that seems inspired by the
famed version at Yardbird
in Hong Kong. This is far
more sweet than spicy, but
still a moreish snack all the
same, particularly when
paired with booze.

Milo Pisang Dinosaur $7
This dessert made up for the disappointing rice dishes.
In a clever twist on traditional goreng pisang, the banana
here is fried in a muruku-like batter spiked with cumin and
other spices. It’s paired with vanilla ice cream and Milo
powder. Wash it all down with Rahmat’s inventive cocktails
— choose from a list that includes the whisky-laced Spiced
Hot Teh-Si ($17) and the Kaffir Blues ($16) made with gin,
blueberry and kaffir lime leaves.

BOTTOM LINE: We prefer the skewers and desserts
to the claypot rice here. Still, this is a fun place to
hang out with friends, because the food and drinks
are interesting but not alienating. And did we mention
there’s no service charge?
