With 45,000 tonnes of sand, sculptors carve and shape dramatic
fi gures, scenes, and places at the International Sand Sculptures
Festival in Pêra every year—the world’s largest sand sculpture
exhibition. Running till October 31, the 15th edition of this festival
of creative expression brings unusual works such as a fresco with
sculptures of Picasso and Dali by Miguel Ângelo. Come to the
Sand City during the day for exceptional visuals and guided tours,
while at night, the illuminated displays are further enlivened with
live music, circus, and dancing. If you want to get your hands dirty,
you can also try building sand sculptures in the pedagogical area.
