Communal Feast The bristly, white
setae of an army of moth caterpillars
fringe a tear in this banana leaf
like ocean foam. These voracious
little guys, the larvae of some
unidentifi ed moth species, were
wreaking havoc on the banana plants
that Dibakar Roy came across in
Kolkata. But rather than seeing them
as pests, Roy was enamoured by
the unintentional symmetry in their
feeding behaviour. The bright, nearly
lurid green tones of this scene, and
the strange form of the caterpillars,
make this macro image look as
if it could have been taken under
a microscope!
