that just adds to the adventure.
One interesting short walk takes you
to see a rock formation called the Organ
Pipes, which are a spectacular natural rock
formation. There is an abundance of wildlife
in this park from small lizards to kangaroos,
wedge tailed eagles and even thorny devils
this place has the lot. Most of the camp sites
are situated in valleys with awesome views
of the mountain ridges and are level and
secluded. It’s the perfect spot if you don’t like
camping in others kitchens.
After the Gawler Rangers you can detour
to a spot called Pildappa Rock, which closely

resembles Wave Rock in Western Australia.
The top looks a lot like the moon with large
craters that fi ll with water after rain. Camping
is allowed here with drop toilets, BBQs and
fl at sites. There are stunning views from on
top of Pildappa Rock and it’s a fun place to
wear out the kids.
From the Gawler Ranges travel back to
Ceduna to restock and then head for home, or
go out and tackle one of the other fantastic 4WD
challenges in the area. South Australia’s mid
coast is packed full of amazing beach, bush and
desert drives so you’re always able to tackle a
new, exciting destination. Q
