The weapon for shooting is yet to be decided. A .38 Webley

Scott and a .32 revolver are what they have. During target

practice, they find that the .32 is jammed.

The cartridge is

stuck. I don’t think

we can use this.

They decide

to use the .38

Webley Scott.

Birla House: 4 pm –

Nathuram, Apte, Madanlal,

Karkare, Gopal, Badge and

Shankar reach Birla House;

Madanlal places the bomb.

Badge sees a one-

eyed man outside

Room No 3, a bad

omen, and decides to

abandon his plan to

shoot.

Birla House 5 pm: Prayer meeting starts; Madanlal gets

the signal from Apte; lights the bomb; Badge doesn’t

shoot Gandhi; Madanlal is arrested by Delhi Police.

The conspirators

and then finish Gandhi. Madanlal,

you use the charge of gun-cotton.

And so it is decided. On hearing the blast, Badge will fire a shot at

Gandhi through the grille with his .38 revolver. Shankar will shoot

Gandhi point blank with the .32. The others would then hurl gre-

nades in Gandhi’s direction. A fool-proof plan...

Why a second?
