THE PROMISE

Combining five patented technologies,

Essence claims to regenerate natural

beauty with three promises – to correct

wrinkles, blemishes and dryness with its

high concentration of marine ingredients; to

resculpt and contour; and to perfect texture

while boosting radiance and vitality.

PACKAGING

The concept of harnessing the benefits of

marine cellular nutrients (63 if anyone’s

counting) is conveyed in every aspect of

the product, from the metallic azure box in

which its housed, to the sleek, ombré blue-

hued bottle with glimmers of silver. Elegant

and easy on the eye.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Described as the “perfect alliance between

science and the ocean”, the serum improves

skin by redefining contours and lifting. The

marine theme carries right the way through

to its fragrance reminiscent of a youthful

Calvin Klein eau de toilette, which while

lovely and refreshing, is distinct, which may

be worth noting for those sensitive to scent.

The gel-like consistency is light enough for

humid climates.

PUT TO THE TEST

Apply to face and neck before moisturiser,

smoothing from the centre of the face

outwards. The serum is completely absorbed

almost immediately after application,

particularly in the case of dry skin types,

with appropriate properties as an ‘in-

between’ step, forming a base for the next

step of your routine.

BEST FOR

Mature skin. Since Essence’s main draws

are to decrease drooping of the lower face

by 12.16 per cent, and wrinkle reduction of

up to 54 per cent (based on the assessment

of surface area and length of the offending

folds) in addition to the clinical scoring of

crow’s feet. The serum is ideal for these

areas of focus.

FINAL VERDICT

In all studies measuring the efficacy of

Essence, results were measured after 42

days, and therefore not instantly noticeable.

It’s also recommended to be used together

with complementary products within the

range for best results, so a range of factors

influence competency. But purely based

on comparing one side of the face with

the serum, against the other without, the

appearance of fine lines does seem less

obvious and the skin more hydrated.
