T

he Empty Hands is the latest project
from actor/director Chapman To
(Infernal Aɣ airs), it’s a drama
following a young woman (Stephy
Tang) who grew up with a strict
Karate master (Yasauki Kurata) as her father.
When he passes away, she tries to put his aɣ airs
in place and sell oɣ the family Karate dojo, only
to learn that 51% of the school was left to one
of her father’s pupils (Chapman To). She ¿ nds
herself drawn back into the world of Karate and
must face many challenges including overcoming
her own doubts and issues that have held her
back for so many years.

To may be best known as a comedic actor, but
he takes things seriously here, as did Tang,
with both of them receiving some intensive
training in Karate from Stephen Au (Body
Weapon). It’s more of a drama than an action
¿ lm, but features some very impressive Karate
scenes and an incredible performance by Tang
who leaves behind the teen idol and soft image
she’s had for so long.

action

R

ussia’s premier action hero
Alexander Nevsky ups the ante
with the upcoming release of his
latest project Maximum Impact,
which promises to be a Moscow
based blend of Black Rain, Rush Hour and
a touch of Red Heat. Directed by Andrzej
Bartowiak (Cradle to the Grave), the ¿ lm also
stars Martial Law’s Kelly Hu, Tom Arnold
(True Lies), Machete’s Danny Trejo and Bai
Ling from The Crow.

The action comedy teams agents of Russia’s
Federal Security Service with the US Secret
Service to prevent a full scale international
crisis.

With ¿ ght and stunt coordination courtesy
of Emmy award winning James Lew, early
word on the ¿ lm has us excited, and we’re
also looking forward to seeing Nevsky under
Eastern skies for the upcoming Savage
Attack.

C

hinese Wushu maestro Vincent
Zhao made a hell of a double
whammy with his ¿ rst two
movies, he played the villain
opposite Jet Li in Fong Sai-yuk,
and then followed it up by taking over the
character of Wong Fei-hong from Li for the
continuation of the Once Upon a Time in
China series.

Now comes the news that Zhao is reprising the
character of Wong Fei-hong once again, the
upcoming Wong Fei-hong movie looks set to
be taking a somewhat diɣ erent approach to the
series, with Wong’s love interest Aunt 13 (most

memorably played by Rosamund Kwan in the
Once Upon a Time in China movie franchise
I will be a cyborg! Zhao previously played the
character in Once Upon a Time in China 4
and 5 , plus the Once Upon a Time in China
TV series which saw most of the cast returning
to reprise their characters from the movie
series, and most recently in Kung Fu Alliance,
which sees Zhao as Master Wong, alongside
Andy On as Master Hua Yin-jia from Fearless,
Danny Chan as Chen Zhen from Fist of Fury
and Dennis To reprising his turn as Ip Man,
last seen in Ip Man: The Legend is Born.

Zhao is also starring alongside Banliu 13’s
David Belle, in a 1930’s set action thriller
Tattoo which will hopefully be the ¿ rst of
a trilogy. We’ve always been fans of Zhao’s
work, and it’s always been frustrating to see
his career stumble several times over the
years, here’s hoping that’s behind him.
