Fair, ethical and credible judging
supervised by BDO
BDO continues to play a crucial role in supervising the PropertyGuru
Asia Property Awards series across the region, assuring that the entire
process is fair, ethical and credible.
A trusted partner for more than a decade, BDO has participated in nearly
40 gala dinners of the Awards to date. In 2017, BDO representatives
from Sri Lanka to Macau supervised the independent judging process,
from the entry stage to site inspections and final deliberations.
“During our long reign as supervisors, the Awards have never stood still
- always evolving, continually being tweaked, always aiming higher to
ensure that achievements in Asia’s real estate sector are recognised and
duly rewarded,” says Paul Ashburn, BDO’s Thailand representative and
appointed supervisor since 2007.
“I believe a large part of the Awards’ ability to remain relevant in the last
12 years is because of the focus and attention placed on the credibility
of the judging process, which is both rigorous and transparent.”
BDO reviews completed entry forms to check that they meet the
published criteria; judges then submit all scores for tabulation directly to
BDO, which presents all scoring results to the judges.
A BDO representative is always present at judges’ meetings to ensure
that criteria and procedures are correctly followed. Attention is closely
paid to identifying conflicts of interest during the judging process, with
jury members asked to consider and disclose conflicts of interest before
casting their votes.
“First and foremost our role is governed by a desire to be able to say
that the judging has been undertaken fairly without bias or favour,” says
Ashburn.
As the Asia Property Awards have grown to be held in countries across
Asia, BDO’s network of offices in the region has been there to support
the judging process.
BDO is an international network of public accounting, tax and advisory
firms which perform professional services under the name of BDO.
The fee income of the member firms in the BDO network, including
the members of their exclusive alliances, was USD7.6 billion as of 30
September 2016. These firms have representation in 158 countries and
territories, with over 67,000 people working out of over 1,400 offices
worldwide.
Recent awards for BDO include the IAB Network of the Year in 2015,
beating industry giants such as PwC and KMPG and the International
Payroll Award at the 2015 Payroll World Awards.
