Th e Martial Arts History Museum also hosts
many events throughout the year with a small
entrance fee that goes into supporting the
growth of the museum. Some events that the
museum has hosted have been celebrations of the
birthday of my dear friend Leo Fong (November
23rd) in conjunction with Bruce Lee’s birthday
(November 27th), a question-and-answer session
on the Leo Fong and Bruce Lee connection and
his accounts of the fi ght between Bruce Lee and
Wong Jack Man for $10! A recent event was Art
Camacho’s book announcement and signing
party for A Filmmaker’s Journey (only $10 as well).
What a great way to not only shine light on living
legends and pioneers but also to give back to the
martial arts community through celebration and
education. Let’s help impact our martial arts
history by doing our part in giving the arts a
place for future generations to discover and enjoy.
Kicking Towards the Future
Life is a gift, and I strongly believe it belongs
to those who dream the impossible and work
to make things possible. When I think about
the past and the obstacles and pressures Mr.
Matsuda faced in founding the fi rst museum
of its kind, I refl ect on the positives. For it is
in these refl ective moments that meaningful
memories form in our minds. Some of the
most beautiful aspects in the world are created
under pressure, and if precious diamonds can be
made under pressure, then rare and enchanting
feats of strength can be created in tough times.
Challenges form wisdom, creativity, personality,
and character. It is how we channel our energy
in the midst of challenges that determines our
outcomes and makes us the individuals we are
today. I think Walt Disney said it best: “All our
dreams can come true if we have the courage to
pursue them.” Michael Matsuda is one to have
realized his dreams and worked hard to make
them a reality. Here is to 2018 and everlasting
success for Th e Martial Arts History Museum!
