Sam, 63, was confirmed as
Ronald Koeman's successor
at the end of November. The
Blues became his seventh
Premier League club – more
than any other boss with
Harry Redknapp next on that
list with five. He's never been
relegated from the top flight
as a manager and secured
promotion to the Premier
League with both Bolton
Wanderers and West Ham.
Sam passed 1,000 games in
management during his brief
spell with Crystal Palace last
season and recorded the
400th win of his managerial
career at Newcastle United
last month. This will be his
29th game managing a
team against Liverpool. He's
previously taken charge of
Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn,
West Ham, Sunderland and
Crystal Palace against the
Reds, winning six, drawing
seven and losing 15. His
Everton side drew here in the
Premier League last month.
