PETERBOROUGH, CANADA
The Mount Community Centre in Peterborough, Ontario, has re-
ceived an anonymous US$300,000 donation which will help
it to complete the construction of its new Food Centre. The
Food Centre will offer programmes and services such as a
Food Innovation Centre, community gardens, a café, catering
services, and demonstration and educational opportunities.
It is replacing The Mount’s original kitchen built in 1952, which
was dismantled when the Sisters of St. Joseph left the property
in 2009. The aim of the new premises is to create affordable hous-
ing and a facility where residents can learn to cook. The next steps will
be to buy and install the kitchen equipment. It is hoped the Food Centre will be fi nished
by February or March.

NEW YORK CITY, USA
A1 Commercial Refrigeration Repair NYC can
now offer a 24-hour emergency service to its
clients in order to extend the refrigeration
repair service it provides all over New
York State. The maintenance company
has made this move as it says it wants to
be able to provide the support its clients
need. A coffee shop customer in New York
City commented: “These guys are the best. It
was during the summer when one of our display
cases broke down. Unfortunately, my baker has just baked cakes and
cheesecakes because we were expecting a full house in the evening.
One of my staff gave me A1’s number. They immediately attended
my call and sent someone to fi x our display case. I was so relieved
that none of the cakes got destroyed.”

MARYVILLE, USA
US-headquartered distributor Sysco Corp
delivered and installed a
professional kitchen
for the Mozingo
Lake Recreation
Park golf resort in
Maryville, Missouri.
In December the
fi rm completed the
project, which involved
designing and installing
a custom-built walk-in
cooler which will be used for outside caterers
as well as some event day alcohol storage.
Maryville City Council approved ordinance to
purchase kitchen equipment for the catering
kitchen including: a large commercial-grade
sink, stainless steel food preparation surfaces,
storage areas and food-warming cabinets.
City manager Greg McDanel said the budget
includes US$40,000 from the Mozingo
Recreation Fund for the equipment. “Fixed
assets such as walk-in cooler, freezers, range
hood and suppression were always intended to
be purchased by the city, therefore they remain
in the facility as an asset,” he said.
