MAY 26 2018 LISTENER 67
SATURDAY MAY 26
Big Hero 6 (TVNZ 2, 5.10pm).
Family fun featuring some
beautifully detailed animation
and a new kind of superhero.
Baymax is a healthcare robot
invented by the older brother
of lead character Hiro “to heal
the sick and injured”. He gives
hugs, which is nice, and helps
Hiro’s grieving family as well
as fighting the bad guy, of
course. (2014)
Jumanji (TVNZ 2, 7.00pm).
The effects no doubt look
rudimentary now, especially
the CGI monkeys, but this
is adventure fun straight out
of the Spielberg playbook.
Robin Williams is at his best
as the boy who grew up in the
jungle after being sucked into
the enchanted board game
Jumanji. And isn’t that little
Kirsten Dunst? (1995)
Titanic (Three, 7.00pm). You
know the way it goes: girl
meets boy, girl loses boy
in a horrific ocean disaster
involving an iceberg. James
Cameron’s clear-eyed abil-
ity with an epic tale rivals,
perhaps surpasses, Spielberg’s.
Titanic won 11 Oscars and
became the highest-grossing
film of all time until it was sur-
passed by ... Cameron’s Avatar
in 2009. (1997)
