in the sad, sordid underworld of
metropolitan Kansas City.
Bloggers from the world of
prostitution and meth addiction reported
that a woman claiming to be Ricky
Davis’s cousin was hustling phone
numbers on his behalf. The “cousin”
was Dena Riley.
In April 2006, a 40-year-old woman
got a phone call from Davis after giving
her number to his “cousin.” She went to
the Truman Road apartment where he
showed her a video of him having sex
with a woman.
“He said he wanted me to be a
serial killer with him. He wanted me
to help him kill women and get rid of
their bodies. He got excited when he
explained that we would suffocate theB
ut the detectives knew Davis was a
rape parolee, and noticed a number
of suspicious things in the apartment,
including a video camera trained on the
bed and an open journal containing notes
about choking and sex. They also spotted
marijuana – a clear parole violation – and
Dena blabbed to a detective that her
boyfriend enjoyed violent sex.
In hindsight, it was enough to detain or
even arrest the pair, but Sheriff Kerrick
Alumbaugh made a peculiar decision.
He ordered them to leave the premises
while he sought a search warrant, and
detectives watched helplessly as they
simply drove away in their red pickup
truck.
When investigators returned two
days later with the warrant, they were

churning evidence of what the couple had done. Videos
showed Dena and Davis repeatedly raping, sodomising,
beating and strangling their victims to death...

A month later, a fisherman discovered
a woman’s nude body near a creek in a
village off the Kansas interstate highway.
She had been raped, beaten and choked.
The woman was stunned to learn that
the victim was her friend, 41-year-old
Marsha Spicer. She thought it was too
much of a coincidence that a friend
had turned up dead after her spooky
encounter with Davis, and wondered
if his “cousin” had hooked her up with
him. So she went to the police to tell
them about “this weird guy.”
Detectives questioned Dena and Davis
at Truman Road the following day. They
said they hadn’t seen Marsha Spicer for
months, and denied any involvement.
