APERITIF

POINT BLANK

Listening to these statements of an
honourable chief minister, my mem-
ory took me back to the dialogues of
the tragedy era of Hindi cinema. If
this is the consequence of a two-party
coalition, what is it that a disparate
group of parties with no ideological
similarity off er to India.

the pain of running a coalition gov-
ernment in the state

Th e Congress had fought against the
British. It is the party of Hindus, Mus-
lims, Sikhs and Christians. Who says
that it is the party of one community
only?
Digvijaya Singh, Congress leader

I remember the 1980s when Indian
athletes would participate in global
sporting events. Athletes from other
countries would constantly ridicule
them. I myself have been teased and
laughed at during the warm-up, or
when we gathered at the athletes
arena bases. Th e Americans, English
and Russian players were particularly
nasty.

Th ere were a lot of sounds. Th ere was
a lot of ‘aiyyo’! But I think she knew
that the bug had bitten this poor girl.

VATICAN REVOLUTION

● Ecclesiae Sponsae Imago, a
Vatican document on consecrated
virginity, stated that physical virginity
is not an essential prerequisite to
be ‘brides of Christ’. Consecrated
virgins are those women who off er
their virginity for Christ, and do not
live in enclosed communities.

WORD PLAY

Planning to switch from the cur-
rent job? Then plan for a jobby-
moon, too. A portmanteau of job
and honeymoon, a jobbymoon
is a holiday taken between jobs.
Depending on the circumstances
and the budget, jobbymoons may
vary, but, there is a common ob-
jective to all those who go for it—
drive out the vestiges of the past
job. Jobbymoon could be the
next big thing in tourism, after
honeymoons and babymoons.
Apparently, the word does not
please everyone. For Scottish,
jobby is a slang word
for poo, from the
19th century
expression, ‘do
a job’.
GALAXY WATCH
● South Africa’s MeerKAT radio
telescope captured the clearest
view, yet, of the central regions of
Milky Way. The picture revealed a
region surrounding a massive black
hole that lies at the central part
of the galaxy, around 25,000 light
years away.
