Expat Living City Guide – June 2018

(C. Jardin) #1
Add character to a lifeless
looking home by using
textures, patterns and colours.
Wallpaper is an instant way
to add impact – and don’t
be afraid to be bold.  Painted walls can
look flat and cold, so look at combining
scale prints with plains and patterns
so they all work well with each other.

CHLÖE ELKERTON from E&A Interiors talks us through
some ways to add oomph to our homes.

Living Room and Bar
Furniture can also add elements of
pattern; for example, this bone-inlay
side table and the cane bar stools with
fan-shaped back and upholstered seats.
The open-plan living room wall has
been wallpapered with a fresh and bold
block-print paper in aqua.

Master Bedroom
The rounded headboard
with pink and blue trellis
pattern contrasts with the
soft dove-grey bamboo
wallpaper.  The small-scale
print on the lampshades
against the larger scale on
the bolster cushions and
plain textured linens gives a
layered and interesting look.

Tip!
Don’t feel restricted
to using printed
wallpaper on just
one wall. The
whole room will
look more finished
if it’s wall to wall,
especially when
you’re lying in bed!

Tip!
Choose a
rug pattern
in neutral
tones that
anchors
the
furniture
in an open-
plan space.
