BILBOLBUL
24-27 November
Bologna
From the punchy
(sometimes literally)
artwork of Roy
Lichtenstein, to
bestselling publications
like The Beano and
2000AD, comic-book
culture has thrilled
adults and children
for decades. That’s the
theme of this annual
extravaganza, which
sees some of Bologna’s
most historic buildings
turned into shrines
to superheroes and
starmen. Collectors
will be able to browse
the memorabilia – and
in some cases get it
signed by authors
and illustrators – and
there will also be art
exhibitions and lectures.
You never know, Bruce
Wayne might even make
an appearance.

FEAST OF TUSCANY
30 November
Tuscany
On the 30th of November
1786, Pietro Leopoldo
of Lorraine introduced
penal reforms that saw
Tuscany become the
fi rst state in the world
to abolish the death
penalty. To commemorate
that impressive
landmark, the region
lets its hair down on 30
November every year in
celebration. There’s a
series of concerts and
exhibitions, copious
amounts of locally
sourced food and drink,
and a family fun run.
Best thing of all? It’s a
public holiday!
VERONAFIL
25-27 November
Verona
If you’re the kind of
person who likes to
scour your loose change
for collectible coins,
this is the show for
you. For three days, the
Veronafi ere clinks to the
sound of international
collectors perusing the
assembled stalls in
search of that missing
sovereign or rare nickel.
And stamp collectors are
catered for, too, with a
wide range of old and
new examples on offer.
Even if you don’t buy
anything, you’re sure to
pick up a few fascinating
stories while you browse.

FESTA DELLA
SALUTE
21 November
Venice
Venice might be
synonymous with la
bella vita these days,
but back in the 17th
century, it was ravaged
by plague and a third
of the population
perished. In the hope
that it might end their
plight, the citizens built
a magnifi cent church as
a gift to the Virgin Mary.
Fast forward to modern
times, and every 21st
of November, thousands
descend on the Santa
Maria della Salute to pay
their respects – both to
Mary and those who died
in the plague – and also
to consume delicious
local food.

MILAN VS INTER
20 November
Milan
The Milan derby is one
of the most passionate
football matches on the
planet – both on and
off the pitch. The San
Siro stadium (which is
home to both clubs)
will be rocking to the
rafters as a capacity
crowd witnesses this
most gladiatorial of
battles. Neither side has
had the best of times in
the past few seasons,
as Juventus have won
fi ve consecutive Serie
A titles. But will that
dilute the fervour for
today’s game? Not a
chance. (Kick-off 2pm.)
