Singapore’s flag carrier

continues to dominate on the

aviation side of the awards,

taking home all but one of the

titles for each class of travel

along withBest Airline in

the WorldandBest Airline

in Asia-Pacificfor the 18th

year running. The carrier was

the launch customer for two

new aircraft this year, Boeing’s

787-10 Dreamliner and Airbus’s

A350-900ULR (ultra long range),

with the latter enabling it to

reclaim the mantle of longest

commercial flight in the world

with its nearly 19-hour flights

to New York.

yet, Hong Kong’s flag carrier

had a notably better year

financially than it did in 2017

and has continued to expand its

long-haul network aggressively,

with new routes to Washington

DC in September and Cape Town

later this month. Cathay Pacific

also took delivery of its first

Airbus A350-1000 aircraft (the

second airline to fly the new

plane); opened its new lounge

in Hong Kong, The Deck; and

began rolling out a revamped

long-haul business class dining

concept this year.
