by adding a black outline (with a steady hand)
around the frames with a thin brush. Finally,
I varnished the model with Humbrol gloss
before adding the minimal decals, followed by
another coat of varnish to seal everything in.

FINAL TOUCHES
This was where my problems started; the
struts were incredibly fiddly to locate into
their location holes and pins, so holding it all
together was a priority. The biggest problem
was that the struts that attach the fuselage to
the top wing are too short, so I replaced them
with some stretched sprue pulled to the same
thickness (plastic rod or Albion tubing would
be a simpler, though higher-cost option).
The engine was next and this has a

good amount of moulded detail. The only
issue I personally had was that the “Carpet
Monster” ate one of my exhausts, so I
had to scratchbuild a replacement.
Finally the landing gear was added
in place before rigging. I used EZ Line
which made this an easy process.

CONCLUSION
Special Hobby have produced a beautiful
kit to create an iconic French aircraft design
of the Great War. It also gives the modeller
an insight as to how vulnerable and exposed
these pilots were in these fragile aircraft.
And I have to thank Special Hobby for supplying
me with this wonderful kit, which I conbsider a
must-have for any World War One collection.
