Finally, with the push to place nurses on boards (frequently thought of as hospital
boards), nurses prepared in DNP programs are better educated to take on those roles by
virtue of their education and clinical experiences than those of us without this added
focus that is emerging in many DNP programs. Programs that produce clinical lead-
ers through strengthening their leadership abilities and through inculcating the skill of
continued professional development have the best opportunity to create key leaders for
tomorrow’s big challenges.
