20: ENHANCING THE DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE DEGREE ■ 461
■ NOTES
- The Drexel DrNP was a hybrid professional doctorate combining advanced nursing practice
with the conduct of clinical research, and all students completed a clinical dissertation. The DrNP
changed to a DNP with very minor curriculum changes in 2015 (Dreher, Donnelly, & Naremore,
2005). - For the first class, the students were simply required to make eight quarterly payments which be-
gan the subsequent quarter after the program was approved. Starting with the second class in 2006 ,
students began making quarterly payments immediately on matriculation. - The students were given a lunch break of 1.5 hours between classes to better reflect on the UK/ Eu-
ropean culture, which takes a more leisurely attitude toward gastronomy. Predictably, the first class
asked to decrease the mealtime to get out of the class early and the faculty refused. In the end, the
longer lunch mealtimes were evaluated favorably. - Much to our dismay, the active volcanoes in Iceland in April 2010 delayed the study- abroad pro-
gram by a week, and so the decision was made to Skype in most of all the planned speakers as the
students completed week 1 on campus. Students did attend week 2 in London and many stayed
abroad longer after the formal program ended.
