ust metres from Mackenzie Beach
is the Flamingo Beach Hotel and
associated apartments some of
which have good views of aircraft
using Larnaca International Airport (IATA
code LCA and ICAO LCLK), plus a more
distant perspective of the air eld. The
hotel has a number of rooms that offer
photographic opportunities of aircraft on

approach to Runway 22 as well as a
roof terrace, with a swimming pool,
from where the aviation action can be
enjoyed.
The Cypriot airport receives a
broad selection of European carriers
including Russia – such as Rossiya
Airlines, Orenair, Aero ot and S7
Airlines – and others from the former
Soviet republics. Middle Eastern
operators are well represented
utilising equipment rarely seen
in mainland Europe, such as
Embraer 190s of Royal Jordanian
and Arkia Israeli Airlines.
Resident Cobalt Air and the
‘new’ Cyprus Airways use A319s
and A320s and TUS Airways
( ying the Fokker 70 and ’100) is
also based at Larnaca.
The airport, which last year
catered for 7.7 million passengers,
handles relatively few cargo ights

    The one- and two-bed hotel
    rooms and apartments all enjoy
a balcony with some looking out over the

beach and approach. Hotel rooms 101, 201,
301 and 401 have among the best views
and it is advisable to book the highest oor
available.

ROOF TERRACE
A roof terrace, complete with a swimming
pool, provides an excellent panorama of the
approach and part of the airport. Aircraft
taxiing to and from the runway and some of
the general aviation/cargo apron is visible
from here, although most of the terminal
area is obscured except for a few stands.
The hotel has a restaurant and bar on the
ground oor from which the Runway 22
approach can be monitored.
Aircraft are approximately 1 mile (1.6km)
from the threshold of Runway 22 when
