Bulkhead build-up

ON any short wheelbase utility
LandRover, the bulkhead andrear
tub form thebasisfor building the
body ontothe chassis. Because the
bottomofthe bulkhead is bolted
throughweldedtubes in the chassis
outriggers, there is no optionto
adjust its heighttoalign with the
rear bodytub,though itcan be
tiltedforeand aft slightly depending
on the positioningoftheforward
mounting bracketsthat locate itto
the chassis.The plan istosit both
ofthesemainsections in place, and
then adjust as necessarytoachieve
correct alignmentofthe side doors
tothe bulkhead andreartub.

With the bulkhead loosely bolted
in position, and beforefi tting the
reartub,it’s worth fi ttingcables
and pipework while the accessto
the chassis is uncluttered. In this
case, a new wiring loom from
Autosparkswas laid out along the
chassis androuted up the frontof
the bulkhead andfed throughto
the instrumentpanel position.The
original fuse box andvoltage
regulator (both bearing the
stamped dateof1949)werealso
mounted on the bulkhead front.
Fuel lines andhydraulic pipesfor
the brakeshavealso been plumbed
in beforefi tting thereartub.

Pre-check
The bulkhead had been assembledtocheck thefi t to
