ield Trip is a brilliant app that shows
you all the interesting things around
you. It gives you directions,
information and a whole host of
other useful location based
knowledge at your fi ngertips. In
this tutorial we’ll show you how to
get the most out of the app, explain
what everything does and show you
a few useful tricks and tips as well.
We will also show you how to save
your favourite places for future
ease of access too. The app is
easy to use and you won’t
need anything other than a
few minutes to get to grips
with it. It’s free to download
from the Google Play store and
once you’ve grabbed it you’re

These tips will show you how to get more out of Field Trip by using notifi cations and saved
places to ensure that you’re not missing anythingWhen you’re looking at the
information for a location, tap the red
flag to add it to your saved places.
You can then access it from the
Settings menu. Helpful if you’re
making a list of places to visit
somewhere new.3 Save your places
If you’re looking for a specifi c
sort of attraction, head to the
Settings menu and select it from
the list. Now the app will only show
you places that fi t that category.
Handy if you’re looking for
something to eat.2 Refi ne your view
Head to the Settings menu and
taptoenable notifi cations. Now when
you’re near anything noteworthy and
included in its database, the app will
automatically let you know so you
can be sure you’re not missing out
on interesting places.1 Set your notifi cationsInvestigate the area
A tap on the crosshair button in
the top-right corner of the screen
will zero-in on your current location.
Tapping on the search button that’s
next to it will enable you to search
the local area for specifi c
businesses, locations or any
particular points of interestZoom in and out
The majority of the page is taken up
by the map. This shows you where
you are and where any points of
interest around you are. You can
swipe through it with a single fi nger,
and pinch to zoom in and outPoints of interest
The boxes along the bottom of the
screen display nearby points of
interest. Swiping through them
shows you their position on the
map, and tapping or swiping up on
them shows you a short written
description. Just swipe back down
to close them againGet directions
When you’ve got one of the boxes open you can
tap on the directions button and you’ll be shown
how to get there. This will open up the maps app.
You can also share the information about the
place by tapping on the share buttonExplore the menu
The menu button lets you refi ne what
you’re being shown on the map view.
You can choose to only highlight specifi c
types of locations and view the places
you’ve saved to check out later. You can
also play with the different notifi cations
settings of the app
