432 CHAPTER 11: Digital Video: Streaming Video, MediaPlayer, and MediaController classes
- Select the MainConcept H.264 MPEG-4 codec using the Codec drop-down
menu, and using the Method drop-down, select the Multi-Pass option,
which will take the longest time to compress your content, but will yield
the very best compression to quality (ratio) result that is possible using the
encoder’s algorithm. - Leave the Frame Rate drop-down at 1:1, and set your Target Data Rate to
1000 Kbps. - Select the Constrain Maximum Date Rate checkbox and set a Max Data
Rate of 150%, which will give you a bitrate ceiling of 1500 Kbps. - On the right side of the Presets dialog, set your Frame Size to match your
source AVI resolution of 480x800 by selecting the Same as source option. - In the Key Frames area of the dialog, set a single keyframe by setting the
Key Frame Every drop-down to 40 seconds, as this is your duration for your
400-frame video which is compressed in VirtualDub at 10 FPS, yielding a
40 second duration. Also, be sure to check the Auto Key Frame on Scene
Change option, which will allow this codec to determine when to take a new
sample (that is, a key frame) of your digital video frame data. - The reason we are doing this is to allow this MainConcepts codec to decide
algorithmically the optimal number of keyframe samples to take during the
video compression process. When everything is set, click on the OK button.
As you can see in Figure 1 1-2 6 , the preset is now added and you can right-click
on it and select the Apply Preset option to add it to your project.
