More About Bowerbirds
The male bowerbird works hard for love. If a female likes
his bower, he performs a funny dance to win the female’s
heart. After mating, the female leaves the bower, builds her
own nest in the trees, and raises her young alone.
Male Australian bowerbirds build dazzling nests,
called bowers, in the forest to attract female mates.
These twig structures can be up to 6 feet wide (1.
meters). The male bowerbird spends months building
and decorating the bower with colorful berries, stones,
feathers, and pieces of plastic or coins. He even steals
from or destroys other bowers so his looks better.
