Species of Asteraceae are listed as HE if male and female florets
occur in the same head. Technically, some of these are monoecious,
but most have female and hermaphroditic florets mixed together.
GR includes seeds and fruits that do not have obvious adaptations
for removal from the plant other than by dropping such as species
that are eaten by seed-eating birds or carried away by ants and ro-
dents after they reach the ground.
Because of late additions and subtractions of species names from
the checklist, species numbers will not exactly match those of Table
3.7 and Appendix 2.

  • Species introduced or escaped from cultivation. Pollinator and
    dispersal dataa are not included for these species.
    Zones of distribution (Zone)
    P = Pacific slope 700 — 1200 m in elevation
    M = montane area above 1200 m on both slopes
    A = Atlantic slope 700 — 1200m

    BE = bee
    BF = butterfly
    BT = bat
    cleist. = cleistogamous
    CO = Coleoptera
    HM = hawkmoth
    IN = insect (insects of several orders or insect types not known spe-
    cifically)
    LB = large bee
    MO = moth (non-hawkmoth)
    SB = small bee
