Lockheed

P-38 Lightning

This month Spotlight shines on the

distinctively con gured Lockheed P-38

Lightning. The fearsome twin-boomed World

War Two  ghter was dubbed the ‘Fork-

Tailed Devil’ by the Luftwaffe. Popular with

its pilots, it was primarily used as a bomber escort over

Europe and in a number of other roles, including ground

attack and dive-bombing.
