air shows are an investment
that is scrutinised for their
return on investment alongside
other forms of company
promotion. But they offer
a unique opportunity for
that organised sales call or
chance meeting in the halls,
generated by the sheer number
of industry professionals
corralled in one place.
Sometimes the flight line
can reveal which major aircraft
deals or customers have projects
in progress, as the world ’s
manufacturers vie for defence
contracts. This Avalon air show will
feature two of the world ’s premier
turbo-prop military trainers, the Beech
T-6C and Pilatus PC-21. Both are in
contention for the Australian Defence
Force Air 5428 program, which seeks
to replace the RAAF’s current fleet of
PC-9A trainers with a more modernaircraft capable of transitioning
Australian military pilots in to highly
advanced and technology-driven
aircraft such as the F-18 E/F Super
Hornet and F-35 Lightning II.Conference Call
An event such as the Australian
International Airshow is also a venue
for conferences staged by major
industry and military associations. The
2013 air show hosted 23 conferences,
and the 2015 event is expected to serve
as the venue for events by organisations
such as the Airservices International
Sustainable Aviation Forum,
Australian Association for Unmanned
Systems, Regional Aviation
Association of Australia members
forum and the Piper Society.
With a cross section of aviation
from military to general, sport
and industry, the 2015 Australian
International Air show is
probably one of the few events
that really deserves the often
misused description of providing
