Aviation News - June 2016

(avery) #1
The highlight was undoubtedly the LOT
Polish Airlines Ilyushin Il-62M, SP-LBC, while
also from behind the Iron Curtain was Tarom
Rombac One-Eleven YR-BRB. KLM 747-200
PH-BUD was a welcome surprise. The bright
colours of Iberia’s yellow, orange and red
scheme was always a favourite of mine and I
thought the 727-200s suited it particularly well.
Another livery that seemed to suit a
particular type of aircraft was the Saudia
scheme on the TriStar so it was a pleasure to

see HZ-AHO.
The Boeing 747 was the long-haul king
back then whereas today, other than the
British Airways eet, few frequent Heathrow.
In addition to the KLM example mentioned
above, jumbos from Air Canada, Air India,
El Al, Japan Air Lines, Pan Am, Qantas,
Singapore Airlines and TWA were noted. Plus
there were two Flying Tiger freighters, one of
which wore Avianca colours yet sported the
Israeli registration of 4X-AXZ.

One of the day’s highlights was a LOT Polish Airlines Ilyushin Il-62M similar to this one.
