Hurricane IIc
For the 2017 display season, the BoBMF decided to repaint
Spitfire P7350 and Hurricane LF363 in new colours honoring
four surviving Battle of Britain pilots who still are alive. Each
aircraft has been painted in different markings on each side.
Special temporary paint has been used which can easily be
removed again. For the Hurricane the port side of the air-
craft now carries code GN-F. This was originally worn by two
249sq Hurricanes piloted by Tom Neil: P3616 and V7313. Both
were lost during the battle while piloted by other pilots, but
Tom Neil in total flew 141 sorties during the Battle of Britain.
He was credited with twelve confirmed kills and four shared
ones. Tom Neil retired from the RAF as a Wing Commander
and has now reached the age of 96 years. The starboard side
of the Hurricane is coded SB-A in honor of Paul Farnes. He
flew Hurricane P2760 with this code while assigned to 501sq.
The aircraft was shot down over Ashford on 15 September
1940, At that point in time it was piloted by Belgian P/O
Albert van den Hove d’Ertsenryck who sadly lost his life. Paul
Farnes was credited with six confirmed kills, two shared kills,
two probables and eleven damaged. He too retired from the
RAF as Wing Commander and is now 98 years old.
