A

n exhibition dedicated to Ju 88 number 6 has been set up in
the Aeroscopia museum at Toulouse-Blagnac. In the
aeronautical archaeology section can be found a model of the
Junkers painted with ‘Groupe Dor’ markings, and the remains of this
aircraft that were found in 2010. The story of Pierre Mazières and his
crew is related and you can see his helmet and fl ying goggles
donated by his daughter Claudine. One of the relics is especially
moving and symbolic: the clock from the Ju 88’s instrument panel
that stopped at the moment of the crash on 13 November 1944.
Pierre Mazières was not only a courageous pilot, but a gifted
illustrator. His drawings depict well French aeronautical life in the
1930s, featuring types like the Bloch 160, Potez 63, Breguet 693,
Latécoère 301 and others. These artworks have been scanned and
may be viewed on an iPad at Aeroscopia, together with pictures from
his photo albums.

RIGHT: Mazières’ talents as an artist become clear from these three
illustrations, which are among his works displayed by the Aeroscopia
museum in Toulouse.

Some of the Armée de l’Air types photographed by Pierre Mazières:
