Sunderland
The rst of our new Spotlight special sections
revisits one of the most successful and elegant
ying boats ever created, the mighty Short
Sunderland. The huge, four-engined machines
were used in a variety of roles during World War
Two and beyond. They saved the lives of many Allied
sailors, and were a major deterrent to enemy shipping
and U-boats before going on to serve successfully in
civilian hands.
