15.4.1 Pentatomid Compounds as Kairomones for Egg Parasitoids
Studies conducted with platygastrid egg parasitoids demonstrate the complexity and diversity of cues
and behavioral interactions between an egg parasitoid and its stink bug hosts. For example, in Y-tube
olfactometer bioassays, the egg parasitoid Telenomus podisi (F.) was attracted to a defensive compound,
(E)-2-hexenal, from its preferred host, Euschistus heros (Vieira et al. 2014). However, (E)-2-hexenal is
a common plant volatile and is produced in large amounts by soybean, a major host plant of E. heros
