SUPERJET 100

SCAC is implementing the Superjet 100 improvement programme with the aim of increasing its
number of customers, satisfying current operators and keeping the aircraft highly competitive.

P

art of this programme involves
installing new wing tips – these
are called ‘saberlets’ due to their
saber-like shape. This design resulted
from extensive research, engineering
and experimental efforts.
Testing showed that the saberlets
improve take-off and landing
performance as well as reduce fuel
consumption by about 3%. Carriers
operating the aircraft with the new
wing tips from regional runways and
in hot weather conditions, as well as
from mountain aerodromes (hot and
high) will particularly appreciate
the bene ts.
In December 2017 a Superjet
100 ew for the rst time with the
saberlets from Zhukovsky. Trials are
continuing, with certi cation to follow
after ground and ight tests have been
completed. Once this work is nished
the modi cation will be offered as
an option to customers. SCAC aims
to receive Russian certi cation for
the saberlets and steep approach
capability at the end of this year, with
validation by the European Aviation
Safety Agency following early in 2019.
Saberlets will be able to be
retro tted on in-service aircraft as well
as being installed on new production
examples. The new wing tips will
provide operators with a saving on the
operating costs of a SSJ100 of up to
$70,000 a year.
