a couple of sets of aftermarket
engine parts from Taurus: D3218
Bosch spark plugs and D3209
valves, lifters, and timing gear. And
from the ever-amazing products
from the Gaspatch range a set of
Palmer spoked wheels (there’s
a photo of one in a hangar with
spoked wheels and bare rims and
I immediately wanted to try and
replicate this). I was hoping I could
incorporate these despite being
designed for English aircraft!
In addition, I acquired the jaw-
droppingly excellent set of resin
Spandau MGs 08/15s. Although
not speciically designed for the
model (they’re meant for a Fokker
aircraft) they seem to it right in.
These really are a superb extra and
so much less iddly than brass; as
they’re moulded as one piece there
are no ends and iddly gunsights
to glue on. It just requires a degree
of dexterity to not break the
said delicate parts: truly nano-
modelling! I hadn’t yet
decided if they are to
be mounted on the
aircraft or alongside
on the trailer.
As for the
backdrop, I settled
on the very nicely
moulded resin factory
wall and gates set
from Diodump. These
are 1/35 Scale, but I think
you’d be struggling to say that
they look out of scale alongside
the rest of the items. Diodump are
based in Holland and they have
an excellent selection of walls,
buildings, and bases. Seeing the
quality of these up close makes
me want to try my hand at another
diorama or two in the future.
This was a pretty ambitious
project for me! Usually, the minute
I inish a kit, it gets relegated to
a box in the garage, never to be
seen again. But with the concept
of the diorama and having the
trailer and cart as separate kits,
I was hoping it would push me
along with some enthusiasm and
I wasn’t disappointed in this.
With all these rather lovely model
items collected together, I just
hoped I could do them justice.
THE BUILD
So onto the build itself – I thought
I’d kick of with familiar territory
and started with the aircraft.
I started out with the engine
