masking for panel shading.
For the masks. I use Post-it
Notes, cut into various shapes, for
the different metal panels, and
Tamiya yellow masking tape on
the more complicated curved areas
where the Post-it Notes will not
stick (I use my fingers to reduce
the “tackiness” of the tape first).
Once all the paint is dry, I brush
on a couple of coats of Pledge
(formerly Future) Floor Wax Polish
with a medium-width brush to
get a glossy surface. Pledge levels
nicely, but you have to be very
careful of runs. It also become
very tacky as it dries so make sure
your environment is dust free. I
let this gloss coat dry for at least
a day before adding the decals.
The F-RSIN decals were bought
more than a year ago and I was
originally planning to use them
on a 1/72 scale Airways vacform
Britannia kit, but decided to put
them on this one instead. They
fit very nicely, with just a few
adjustments, and they even include
windows with some curtain detail
(which is why I sanded over the
kit window openings earlier).
After letting the decals dry for at

least a day, I sealed them with yet
another gloss brush coat of Pledge
Floor Wax to finish my model.

CONCLUSION
Yes, Mach 2 kits are far from the
smoothest or easiest builds on the

market, but I like them because they
offer aircraft seldom found anywhere
else in 1/72 scale. They do require
quite a lot of clean up before you can
start assembly, but with just basic
modelling skills they can be made
into a very good looking model.
I would like to thank Mach

2 for providing me with this kit
to build. If you are looking for a
military version of the Brittania,
Mach 2 also produces a boxing
with RAF decals: kit GPO87.
