Great War-themed museum opens
in Australia
The Australian Vintage Aviation Society offi cially opened the TAVAS Museum in Caboolture,
Queensland, on June 2. The attraction focuses on the fi rst 30 years of fl ight and houses the only
collection of fl ying Great War-era aircraft in the country. It includes 13 airframes and a roll of

The RAF’s centenary was celebrated
by over 1,000 people on June 2 at
Lough Erne in County Fermanagh,
Northern Ireland, a signifi cant
location for RAF Coastal Command
during the Battle of the Atlantic.
During World War Two, crews from
the RAF, Royal Canadian and Royal
Australian Air Forces operated
from the lakes using fl ying-boats
such as the Short Sunderland and
Consolidated Catalina against the
German U-boat fl eet. To mark the
occasion, a Panavia Tornado GR.
of IX (Bomber) Squadron overfl ew
the site of RAF Killadeas, and Plane
Sailing’s Catalina G-PBYA Miss Pick
Up landed on the lough, evoking
memories of times gone by.
