areas of the factory not normally
open to visitors. This enabled them
to drive their air-cooleds right up
outside the main office building as
well as lunch in the workers cafeteria
on condition that the VW PR bods got
to take photos and interview a few
folk for some future article. We were
told there was a limit to the number
of people allowed to come along and
after chatting with the main organiser
he kindly agreed that we could have
the remaining slots. What a result!
We were up bright and early like a
bunch kids on Christmas morning,
prepping ourselves for the very
special day that lay ahead (so much
so Gareth even washed and blow
dried his hair and luscious, manly
beard). All preened and looking
dapper, we drove over to the other
side of the campsite to meet with the
other guys who we heading out for

the day, only to be met by a couple
of grumpy and rude faces, mainly
one couple in particular who were
not pleased in the slightest that
we had been invited along. Snide
comments and whispering (loud
enough so we could hear) within
her clan made us feel pretty
uncomfortable. We simply ignored
them and carried on chatting with
the nice folk before we all drove in
convoy to the iconic VW factory.
This visit could easily take up
a whole feature by itself as there
was so much to see, but I’ll keep
it brief and just say, if you are any
where near Wolfsburg, get your
ass over there! You get to cruise
around the factory in Golf trains
