Talabiwaslastseenbyfirefighters
clinging to his bedroom window,
feetscrabbling,spent.Afterthat,Ta-
labi reported, the two Syrian broth-
ersinsidehisapartmentreachedout
anddraggedhimbackthroughthe
window.Oneofthosebrotherswas
nowdead.Hehadnotmadeitout.
Therewerethreeotherneighbours
who’dtakenshelterintheapartment
that night. They were dead, too.

they,too,wereallowedtospeak
about their experiences.
